The days of sweltering heat had gone, where bodies clung to the cloth that adorned them, seeking shelter from the relentless sun in the inviting shade of the alluring palms. The night of eternal darkness had passed, where stars lay scattered like glittering diamonds on black velvet and the coolness of the hour was welcomed with eagerness. The immortal fabric of life cycled, swirling in a curling cyclone with no real beginning, middle, or end, but shifting, ever moving in a defined pattern laid out by some long gone god. Regimes rose and fell in the blink of an eye, leaving nothing but salvageable pieces fluttering in the littered landscape like autumn's dying leaves. Fall had brought death to the lands, death that would ensure that life would continue as it always had, and always would. It's role had been played, it's purpose fulfilled, and without a backward glance did it depart from its mighty golden and ruby throne, leaving the vacant spot open for the taking, and taken it would soon be.
In would ride the white witch of winter, her cold fingers toying with the brisk breezes that snapped at the flesh of mortals, forewarning of the months to come. And pale the world would become - but not yet, not now. First the world must be rid of autumn, banished must be all lingering displays of warmth and vibrant colors. That had already been done. Next would be sent forth the armies - in the form of snow flurries and white storms - to keep the rebels at bay. And lastly, autumn would struggle, in vain, to keep its previously-firm grip on the world, but like always, it was a doomed battle that would fade from memory until the cycle would be repeated the following year.
Winter loomed like a prowling wolf, its presence known, but its figure hidden. It was there, waiting, bidding its time until it could stalk freely and sink its bloodstained talons into the innocence flesh of those too weak to escape its piercing iciness. The zephyr was its messenger, bringing forth the fresh scent of water that announced that snow, in all its fury, would soon cast its mark upon the lands, attempting to lay claim for the first of many battles that would end, for a brief time, with the world covered in untainted whiteness. Not yet though, not yet, for it still had to marshal its troops, its force too weak to make any lasting effect. In the mornings it sent out its spies and heralds, to see whether it was at last strong enough, but, as the sun arose from his night time slumber, his mighty force would still swipe away these vile creatures, leaving winter to know, when its scouts did not return, that its forces still lacked the might that they needed.
It was in a such a morning that a certain Lily Luna Potter sat on the bank of the lake, staring blankly at the horizon past the Black Lake, where the sun was rising, slowly but surely. There was a calm aura about her small figure, her read curls blowing in the wind around her face as her bright brown eyes stared into the distance. They were pensive, reflecting the rising dawn light in golden hues, blinking occasionally but otherwise unwavering in the wind that blew dried leaves from dead trees around her. She had woken nearly an hour earlier, and could not fall back asleep; insomnia was not usually something that plagued her, but for some reason it had. Maybe there was subconsciously a lot on her mind. She couldn't really think of what it might be, though, at the moment, and to tell the truth, she didn't really want to. She was calm and happy and at peace at the current moment, her pale pink cloak thrown over her shoulders to protect her against the wind, and, as far as she knew, nothing could ruin that.

. Callie concentrated on taking slow, even breaths. In and out, in and out.... She closed her eyes momentarily, still taking deep breaths, then she opened her eyes and marched forward. Her heart beating faster then it should. The lake was so clear, so open and big. The surface looked glassy and mirror-like, broken only by the wind, throwing the water into little peaks. Callie braced herself, and reminded herself that the person in front of her was that, just a person. "er, Hey."That was all she could get out, she looked at the girl, who looked so peacfull, so calm and happy. The Gryffindor turned and her wide, brown eyes, which were fixed on Callie, looked kind. But Callie, never the less felt like a deer in the headlights. Unfinished Finished Music ! Unfaithfull by Rihanna Tagged For ! Lily hadn't heard the girl approaching, so when a small voice broke the silence - "er, hey," - the fifth-year jumped, emitting a small squeak as she turned towards the source of the voice and stumbled on the bank of the lake, nearly falling. It wasn't that Lily was scared - she had just been surprised. As she turned to look at the girl who had spoken to her, however, she found the latter looked just as surprised and pale, maybe even scared. This confused Lily a bit; she didn't find herself particularly frightening, and this girl couldn't have been much younger than Lily by the looks of it, so she couldn't think of anything about herself that might have been scary.
Nonetheless, the Gryffindor softened her expression, the shock wearing off and being replaced by a small smile. She wasn't sure why this girl was talking to her; maybe she couldn't sleep and had been lonely or something, or maybe she just wanted to make new friends - it didn't matter to Lily, who wasn't exactly displeased to see that she now had company. On the contrary, she thought she may have gotten a bit lonely soon if this girl hadn't showed up.
Looking at the girl, Lily realized that she was probably around her own age, maybe a bit younger, with straight brown hair and brown eyes, a sort of kind shyness about her. She didn't recognize the girl from her own house, but she had seen her around Hogwarts. And she definitely didn't look like a Slytherin - she seemed to quiet and shy, and it would be very odd for a random Slytherin to approach her and strike a conversation (unless it was a certain blond Slytherin who had been on Lily's mind often as of late...) - so she must have been a Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.
As she realized that she still hadn't replied - and that the girl was probably already having second thoughts about talking to Lily, if her wide-eyed feaful expression was any indication - so Lily hastened to return the salutations. "Hello," she said, but it seemed inadequate, so she added, "Er, I'm Lily..." with a small nervous smile, unsure of what to say. That seemed like a good enough greeting, right? Hopefully, now the girl would stop looking so scared...

It had been a rather long night and a cold one at that. He believed it was the first sign of winter when your breath rose in a constant mist surrounding your face and although he was cold, slightly pink and completely deprived of sleep he knew that once again next week he?d be collecting a pass from the astronomy professor allowing him to wander the castle at night.
A privilege he knew he was lucky to receive, not just for his constant top marks in the subject but from the stories his father had regaled him with when he was young about hidden stones, escaped convicts, giants, werewolves and oversized monsters. Stories he would later learn from the books he read were actual school events and not the fairytale fantasies from parent to child he believed them to be.
Yet it was the best time for it, a coming winter meant the skies were clear of the dense clouds which irritated him so much. Nevertheless as he continued to proceed back to the castle from the high stands surrounding the quidditch pitch he was longing for the warmth of the dormitories in which the house elves should have lit the central fire in order to make the morning rise from the covers as painless as possible. Scorpius had never been so thankful that he had no classes in the coming morning.
Shifting the telescope under one arm and shoulder bag, containing the hot drink which had kept him going, on the other he tried best he could to rub his hands in an attempt to generate warmth from them ?d**n it? he sighed as the telescope slipped from his grasp onto the grass. He paused slightly, dreading picking it up when the morning dew would cling to the metal making it colder still and create more of a longing to be back I him dorm.

, and The Wind in the Willows. The sun was always shining and the days were long enough to savor, while still being short enough to yearn for tomorrow. But that was all in her past, now she spent her days in the cold school corridors. Sulking past teachers and watching her "friends" mingle with each other and not her. The lake's peculiar ripples brought her back to real life, she eyed the lake's now not-very-glassy surface and wondered what lurked beneath the water's brim. The girl was looking at Callie and Callie looked away, embarassed. When Callie next peeked at the Gryffindor she got a better look at her. She was about Callie's age, slim, with a petite build; her oval shaped face framed by brown curls cascading down her back. Her eyes were brown, wide and sparkling with a love for life Callie wished she could grasp. Gryffindor or not the girl looked pleased Callie had joined her, she seemed to be searching for something to say before settling on. "Hello," but before Callie could introduce herself the girl added. "er, I'm Lily..." Lily looked a little nervous now, her calm mannor was fading fast and being replaced by a somewhat anxious air. Callie tried smiling reassuringly, and offered her own name. "I'm Callie, I hope I'm not bothering you" She smiled again and stepped closer to the lake. The sound of footsteps made Callie turn her head and watch a boy who looked much older then her come down the hill. She wondered if he was going to join Lily and Callie's unofficial party... A cold breeze blew, blowing Lily's red hair around her face, as she, too, turned to look into the lake. It was a moment before the girl replied - "I'm Callie, I hope I'm not bothering you," - and Lily hastened to reassure her.
"Oh - no! Of course not; I'm glad you came and spoke to me!" she exclaimed, somewhat frantically, her voice ringing out in the wind as she hastened to make the girl - Callie - feel more comfortable and not as if she was bother Lily. Because, to be honest, she wasn't; Lily was glad for the company.
As both girls looked out over the water, Lily glanced at Callie for a moment, still wondering a bit what house she was in. It wasn't important, though; she seemed nice anyway.
A moment or so later, she saw Callie turn her head, and Lily followed her gaze, a flash of movement catching her eye. A pink flush immediately spread on her cheeks that had already been pinkened from the harsh wind, and her brown eyes followed the blond Slytherin's movements, watching him as he dropped a telescope and cursed under his breath. He looked cold, but Lily didn't dare go talk to him on friendly terms while someone else was watching. Instead, she turned her focus back to Callie, and asked a question to keep the conversation going, "So, er - what brings you out here?" All she hoped was that the blush had faded from her cheeks, so as not to arouse any suspicion in Callie, whom she had just met.

Lily exclaimed, her childish features suddenly alarmed as she rushed to assure Callie. A moment passed and Callie felt Lily's eyes on her. She looked up to find Lily's chocolate brown eyes fixed on her, the moment thier eyes met Lily dropped her gaze; her cheeks turning a darker pink. The silence was like pressure now, and Callie was about to say something but Lily spared her. "So, er - what brings you out here?" She said, sounding generally interested in Callie answer. Callie thought for a moment, and then answered Lily. "I couldn't sleep, and I thought I would like to see the water frozen. But I geuss it's not cold enough... How about you?"As an example Callie bent to trail her fingers through the icy water. She stood and wrapped her now freezing fingers in her sweatshirt pocket, she smiled, she liked being with Lily. Lily didn't need to fill all the silence with words and chatter unlike most of the Weasley/Potters.``[/blockquote][/ul] Unfinished Finished Music ! tell me why by taylor swift Tagged For ! lily & scorpius Words ! 250[/ul][/blockquote]

"I couldn't sleep, and I thought I would like to see the water frozen," Callie replied, bending down toward the edge of the lake and trailing her fingers through the freezing water. Judging by the ripple her fingers created in the surface of the water, Lily surmised that it wasn't cold enough to be frozen, and apparently Callie did, as well. "But I guess it's not cold enough..."
Lily crouched down, too, prodding the surface of the lake with her index finger, but she instantly wished she hadn't: the water was much colder than she had anticipated, and her finger was freezing and pink when it emerged, quickly becoming numb. She brought her finger to rest within her other hand, using her own body heat to restore warmth to it, and stood up again, looking toward Callie as the latter asked, "...How about you?"
A small smile played at Lily's lips as she stared out over the surface of the lake, watching the ripples they created flow into the distance toward the opposite bank until they disappeared. "I couldn't sleep either... so I thought I'd just come outside to enjoy the fresh air. " she said as she realized that the air was much colder than she had anticipated, her voice trailing off as a rustling sound reached her ears from some point behind them.
She turned slightly, her red hair bouncing off her shoulders as she did so, and her brown eyes rested on a figure approaching them, small at first but growing larger as he came closer. From where she was standing, Lily could recognize a shock of blond hair on a face of pointed features, and the green Slytherin emblem on his robes. She pulled her own robes closer together, the red and gold Gryffindor emblem shining by the collar, in an attempt to keep herself warm in the chilly morning air, and wondered what he was doing coming down toward them. She was even more confused when he came to stand beside Callie and her, not looking at either of them and saying not a single word, but just staring out over the lake as she had done moments before.
She glanced toward her left for a moment, where Scorpius Malfoy stood, and wondered if Callie knew him. Unsure what to do or say, Lily settled for a simple, "Er - h-hello," stuttering even over that one simple word.

Lily shivered as though saying, But it's not that nice out, it's just cold!Callie grinned and looked back out over the lake, the water was so mezmorizing, so enchanting and pretty. A wind whipped the two girls' hair around their faces, Callie impatiently brushed her hair away from her face, while Lily simply let her red curls dance in the wind. A quiet rustling sound roused both girls' attention, they both looked up and turned around to see a tall, lanky blond boy heading towards them. He was pale and had very nondescript features, including a long nose and very green eyes. The boy kept coming closer and closer untill he fell in line wih the girls. He didn't say anything, he just came to rest on thier right side, like a feather falling onto the ground after being thrown a long distance. Callie was slightly shocked by this boy's flat out intuition, but she didn't mind tat he'd come to join them. Lily on the other hand was positivly scared of this new boy, she was jumpy and nervous. Much unlike the calm and collected Lily Callie had met just a quarter hour ago. As if to break the ever growing awkward silence, Lily uttered a few, trembling words. "Er - h-hello," After that Lily didn't say anything, so Callie mustered up all her wits and said in a calm (or what seemed calm to her) voice. "Hi, I'm Callie and this is Lily, who are you?" that his eyes flicked towards the ground. She may have been stuttering but he could still tell who’s voice it was and in he walk down to the lake he hadn’t once considered that one of the people standing by the waters edge would be Lily Potter. He rather regretted his decision now, it wasn’t often that the two of them had been in the same place with another person there apart from in lessons where they avoided each other anyway to fit in with the expectations of their groups. "Hi, I'm Callie and this is Lily, who are you?" The Callie girl was looking at him rather curiously, he chose not to answer right away but glanced between them and the lake. He wasn’t quite sure what to do with himself now, when he’d considered the situation earlier standing by the lake was pretty much the end of the scenario, conversation hadn’t come into it. Scorpius found himself become rather fidgety and began pulling at the button of the front of his school robes. “I’m Scorpius†he replied finally not looking directly at either of them but choosing instead to focus on a rock at his feet instead “Scorpius Malfoy†he didn’t really know what else to say, although he supposed that was all they asked of him so in the interest of actually being polite he replied “and you are?†status; complete. tagged for; lily and callie word count; 294 currently listening to; sally cinnamon – the stone roses. "Hi, I'm Callie and this is Lily. Who are you?" Callie asked Scorpius, looking at him curiously. She seemed interested, and a bit confused as to why he had just come to stand there, not saying anything. Lily, also, was confused for the same reason, but she didn't show the same interest Callie did; instead, she looked across the lake at a tree on the opposite bank.
"I'm Scorpius, Scorpius Malfoy," the boy on her right replied, keeping his eyes downcast. Lily did the same, choosing instead a location on the surface of the lake in the distance to focus on. "And you are?" his voice came again, and Lily glanced at him from the corner of her eye. Callie had just introduced them both, but maybe he hadn't heard, or maybe he was trying to make it look like they didn't know each other and had just forgotten.
She replied quietly, keeping her gaze focused on a tree on the opposite side of the lake. "L-lily -" she stuttered, her hands fidgeting with the clasp of her robes. "Lily Potter."
A cold breeze blew her red curls forward, and she crossed her arms across her chest in an attempt to make use of all her body heat. A small glance to the left told her that Callie was pushing her hair out of her face, and to the other side she found that Scorpius was idly fiddling with the buttons on his robe. The silence that fell then was slightly awkward, and Lily thought of something to say; it would be futile asking Scorpius what house he was in - the green Slytherin emblem was visible on the front of his robes - and she wasn't sure what she should say to Callie.
Lily liked Callie: the girl seemed nice enough, and maybe even a bit more caring and genuine than most others. Lily would have liked to become friends with her. She remembered vaguely that she still didn't know what House or year Callie was in. If she had to guess, she would probably say Hufflepuff, only because she knew for a fact that Callie was not in Gryffindor, she seemed too kind and easygoing to be in Slytherin; Ravenclaw would be Lily's second guess, but Callie seemed to show more of Hufflepuff's qualities. So, for lack of something else to say, she turned her head slightly toward the younger girl and asked, "So, er... what House are you in?" She only hoped she didn't seem like she was trying to avoid Scorpius, for, even if she was trying to make it seem as if they didn't know each other, it would be mainly futile if her efforts had an adverse affect.

Callie watched in silence as Lily and Scorpius exchanged names in the awkward conversation. They both looked very stiff and.... shy? Callie couldn't get her tounge around the right word but it was something along that line. Callie cast her eyes back over the black lake and squinted as the sun came out from behind the forest to reflect blindingly on the water. All three students blinked fiercely as thier eyes adjusted to the sudden brightness. Callie assumed the other students would be waking up now, who could sleep through this light?
A hard gust of wind blew past the students and the fridgity of the air intensified four-fold. Callie tucked her windblown hair behind her ears and then put her hands back in her somewhat warmer pockets. From the corner of her eye Callie saw Lily's red curls blow in the wind, it looked like fire dancing in the breeze with the sun behind it like that. Lily folded her arms across her chest, to try to warm herself up Callie supposed. Scorpius, to add to Callie's confusion about this boy, stood stock still, not a hair twitched.
Callie stood for a minute after the wind stopped blowing, it was so much warmer now the sun was out and Callie was going to enjoy it. She sighed inwardly as she thought about the day of school work she'd have to face once she went back inside. Maybe that was why she'd come out so early, maybe that was why Callie, Lily and Scorpius had come out. 'Cause when you're outside and there's nothing to worry about, you can really be yourself, not worrying about who your friends are or what house you're in. Callie did feel more secure and happy then she had in a while... or was she just paranoid?
As if Lily could read Callie's mind and she disagreed with what Callie had just thought, Lily asked the question that would send everyone hating on Callie. "So, er... what House are you in?" Callie did another inward sigh, she had to answer and when she did, everyone would think twice before talking to the wimpy Hufflepuff. In defeat, Callie decided answered in a monotone. But why should she? She could be proud of being a Hufflepuff, not ashamed. So she answered in a nonchalant, almost proud voice."Hufflepuff, and you guys?" She added so Scorpius could join the conversation. God only knew how many times Callie had stood listening to conversations instead of joining them.

Scorpius stared harder at the rock on the ground. He was finding the conversation slightly painful, wishing that instead of the normal polite routine questions he could actually talk to either of them. Without the stereotypes or the allegiance to their own houses which would prevent such things. "Hufflepuff, and you guys?" Callie definitely sounded proud when she gave the name of her house and he had to admit to himself as he replied ”Slytherin” back to them that he was proud to. Perhaps they created the allegiances to the house stereotypes themselves. It was something that he’d definitely consider. In the time they had been stood together the sun had rose slightly over the lake and although Scorpius blinked first at the light after been used to the darkness he didn’t flinch from it. He noted to himself that stood side by side Callie and Lily both came across as rather fierce in the pale light with their hair whipping their face. He decided to attempt conversation since he figured that in an hour or so they wouldn't have the opportunity when others in the castle arose, ”So, why are you both out here this early. I’m assuming you haven’t been doing astronomy during the night. I was half expecting a performance from the giant squid.” He smiled slightly and turned to look at the pair of them. status; complete. tagged for; lily and callie word count; 244 currently listening to; precious time – the maccabees [/blockquote][/ul]

After the breeze, pine is strong on the wind. It smells of Christmas, even though it's April; Callie closed her eyes to remember that holiday ever after. Now the sky was lightening everyone looked warmer, the sun cast off Lily's hair and illumentated it like red russet fire. Scorpius looked less pale and pallid in the sunlight also, maybe all the Slytherins were so pale because they spent all thier time sulking in the dungens. Callie's face cracked a dry little smile after that thought, and thought of all the Slytherins outside in the sun.
The castle windows showed dark shapes moving behind them; everyone was waking up. Callie geussed it was around 7:00 or 7:30 in the morning, soon it would be breakfast time and mail time. She woundered if she or Lily or Scorpius would ever remember this meeting, where houses and cliche groups didn't matter. At the thought of breakfast Callie grew hungry, she wasn't a girl to miss breakfast.
Scorpius broke another akward silence. ”So, why are you both out here this early. I’m assuming you haven’t been doing astronomy during the night. I was half expecting a performance from the giant squid.” He was grinning as he turned towards both girls. Callie smiled wryly and thought over the steryotype that Slytherins were without humour. "I don't think the squid will preform today, but maybe tomorrow. I couldn't sleep," Callie answered, she wasn't going to tell him why she couldn't sleep, and well Lily could speak for herself. But this was nice, a conversation with a Gryffindor and Slytherin...
Sorry for the super late reply!
